Welcome to Subarashii Kudamono

At our orchard in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, each Asian Pear is hand-picked and packed with care, delivering legendary flavor in every bite.

The gift you’ve received carries a deeper meaning: in Japanese tradition, the Asian Pear is a symbol of good fortune—just as the pineapple represents hospitality or the apple, appreciation for teachers.

Whoever sent this to you wished you something truly special.

Our Story

The story of Asian pears began in 300 B.C. on the mist-shrouded hillsides of the Far East, where orchards bear a wonderful fruit of unparalleled flavor and texture. So distinctive and unforgettable is the fruit that it became a symbol of beauty and longevity.

In 1984 the Spiras established their own orchard in Pennsylvania's fertile Lehigh Valley.  It is there that they began developing and patenting seven varieties of Asian Pear, each supremely juicy, crisp, and sweet.

That is how Subarashii Kudamono, which means "wonderful fruit" in Japanese, was born.

Care Instructions

You can devour our Asian Pears as soon as they arrive at your door, perfectly crisp and firm. We pick them at peak sweetness and unlike European pears, Asian Pears don’t ripen after harvest.
Unwrap and store Subarashii Kudamono Asian Pears in the fridge and they’ll last, perfectly ripe, for up to a month or more.
You don't need to peel your pears. We find the skins to be a tasty way to enjoy the benefit of vitamins and minerals. Asian Pears are also full of Lutein and high in fiber.
